This instrument is made up of two parts. The first part is a conch shellhorn that is made by sawing and drilling the front off of a conch shell until it has about a dime sized hole. It is then played like a trumpet which you can change the pitch of by putting your hand in different places on the shell. Part two is an interface built on the shell that is made up of buttons and dials. These buttons are connected to the ArtBus which then is connected to a Max MSP patch. The Max MSP patch is made to take the incoming sound from a microphone attached to the sea shell and turn it into two separate outputs, both of which have adjustable pitches. The buttons and dials change these pitches and the amount of delay on them. The result is an acoustic drone that the pitch can be varied slightly with an electronic sound in melody coming from an attached amp. -Bethany C.
