If you haven't already, look at the user diagram to see the labels of the switches and terminals.  You'll see that i/o channel #1 is on the right side.

These are the basic ways to connect analog and digital inputs like switches, photocells, and pots. A word of CAUTION: the center lead on the pots in the diagrams are yellow -- be sure the center lead on the pot goes into the correct row of holes on the board!
